This weekend's recap involves a number of firsts, beginning with my personal favorite--Sammy's first shiner:
This is why you're not supposed to catch toys with your face. Sammy's friend, Samy, accidentally dropped a toy bus that he was holding as he walked past Sammy, whacking him right in the noggin'. Fortunately, Sammy shook it off pretty well and didn't seem too bothered by the whole incident.
Sammy attended his first playdate at the Soft Playroom in Alexandria for his friend, Gabe's, second birthday. Sammy was a bit overwhelmed at the beginning (it was pretty noisy in there), but he warmed up quickly to the ball pit. [Insert off-color joke about the apple not falling far from the tree, etc., here.]
Having recently conquered crawling and clapping, Sammy decided to go for the hat trick and pulled himself up into the standing position for the first time yesterday evening. I had my camera out in an attempt to capture some no-pants cuteness and was a bit surprised when he crawled right over to the chair and then used it to pull himself up as though he's been doing it for months. Sheesh, give this kid an inch and he takes a mile.
And that brings us to the last of this weekend's firsts: the first time the dryer attempted to eat an item of clothing. What you are looking at is the twisted remnant of one of Sammy's overall buckles; the rest of it is lodged somewhere in the dryer. I have no idea how in the world this happened, but fortunately the dryer seems none the worse for wear (apparently it hungers for corduroy). I wish I could say the same for the overalls--they were my favorite pair.

Love baby firsts! As many times as my kids have hit their heads or gotten whacked with something it's a wonder they aren't brain damaged. Hope your dryer keeps working!
What a cutie!!! Now the fun begins when he starts crawling. My boys have had so many bruises. The are always falling an hitting things(or each other).
Unless the pants are just thrashed, you can probably just replace the metal parts. I know they sell them at my local fabric store.
Way to go, Sammy! And way to shake off that shiner! Maeve milked hers pitifully for all she was worth!
Wow that is a lot of firsts! He looks like he was enjoying that ball pit!! CutÉ
What a brutal dryer! He is such a doll, tho. And, I have a Sam (7 yo.) so I'm a big fan! :)
Holy crap Sammy! Just wait till we get L and Sammy together again. Sheer madness.
Oh boy- I think the worst for me was when the washer would eat my diapers when I had the agitator. So frustrating. Now the only time I have an issue is when the kids put things in the dryer wrong & get them stuck in the door. :)
You gotta love those baby shiners. It's terrible when they do that to themselves & so embarrassing to take them out in public.
Thanks so much for linking up with me today- makes me so happy!
Wow, your dryer's pretty badass ;) Adorable photos of your son. Love his thighs!
Um, what?! Sammy clapped and you didn't call me!?
My two year old (now 11) got a shiner because we were playing catch and a ball caught him in the face. We were at the doctors and the doctor asked "what happened?" "Mommy hit me." Not the best of moments!
Love these pictures especially the one in the ball pit. Truly adorable!
Well Sammy is a giant so I expect him to take over the world any day now. :)
Aw, cute pics! I think we all remember the first shiners very well, heehee.
Sammy's pulling up? Boy, oh boy, won't be long before he's sprinting off! Shiners - if he's anything like my boys, it's the first of many, I'm afraid!
Hello! Found you through MBC. Hope you will stop by for great photography tips, reviews, contests and other resources for photographers. :)
Wow. That overall buckle is toast. Yikes. Great captures of your Sammy. Congratulations on all of the other firsts too!
Just wait until he starts riding tricycles down flights of stairs and jumps off of roof tops. He's the best nephew, ever.
