Eleven-month update

Sammy and Sandy

Sammy turned eleven months old yesterday and I totally didn't realize that until today.  Oops.  Let's get down to the nitty gritty: Sammy is now the proud owner of seven teeth (four on top, three on bottom), weighs approximately 24 pounds, and is about 30 1/2" tall.  He's wearing 18-24 month clothing for the most part, but has started wearing pjs in the 2T range (this is mostly due to his, ahem, generously-sized cloth-diapered rear end).

It's amazing how independent Sammy's become in the past month; he wants to hold his own bottle most of the time, which is awesome--especially if we're out and about and he's due for a bottle.  All I have to do is recline the stroller and he's good to go.  Of course, this has it's drawbacks from time to time, as Sammy often seems more intent on making a mess than finishing his bottle:

Speaking of messes, Sammy's much happier feeding himself than when I do it.  He continues to eat just about whatever I put in front of him from veggies to pasta, which he likes.  A lot.  I'm actually struggling to come up with meals that he and I will both enjoy and have pretty much exhausted my repertoire of simple yet tasty dishes at this point.  I'm open to all suggestions!

Invisable mustache twirl

Let's see, what else?  Still not walking, but Sammy is standing up unassisted a lot these days.  It's kind of crazy to look up and see him just standing in the middle of the room like he's been doing it for a long time.

About to fall asleep standing up

Some of Sammy's favorite things:
Sandy
Head butts as a sign of affection
Bath time
Pushing things around on the floor, like books, toy cars, shoes, etc.
Drinking out of my glass
Waving indiscriminately
Yodelling
Eating the rocks from the fireplace
Banging things loudly

Some of Sammy's least favorite things:
Being told no
Having things taken away from him
Diaper changes
Waiting for lunch/breakfast/dinner

And before I completely forget, the article about Sammy's nursery was posted on Baby Lifestyles and I think it turned out really well.  Click below to check it out:

We are loving chicken Koftas with cucumbers and yogurt with our 9.5 month old. It reminds me a lot of a gyro but much healthier. They are actually middle eastern meatballs, but we substitute chicken because lamb is too expensive.

Here's what you need...

1.25 lbs ground chicken (we grind our own in a food processor)
1/2 an onion
1/3 C fresh parsley
coarse salt and ground pepper
1/2 large cucumber diced to your liking
1/2 C plain Greek Yogurt
2 T vegetable oil
2 Medium tomatoes cut into 1/4 in slices
4 pitas (we do whole wheat)
optional: 1/4 C fresh mint leaves

What to do...
In a large bowl, combine ground chicken, onion, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix with your hands and form 8 oval patties.

In a medium bowl, toss together cucumber and yogurt, season with salt and pepper. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high. Cook patties until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 10-12 minutes. Warm pitas if desired. Fill and enjoy!

I give my son some of the kofta (the patty) cut up into chunks with the cucumber sauce and tomatoes. He LOVES it, and it's healthy too! We like grilled zucchini as a side, which he eats too.

Also, kebabs are great for this time of year. :)

Way to grow Sammy! Watch out for the headbutts because they will bring tears to your eyes!

Quesadilla have always been a big hit in my house and you can put in anything you want for the little guy. Also check out weelicious.com for some inspiration - she has great ideas.

L is loving falafel and veggie burgers. Oh, and anything with hummus on it.

My son, Landon, will be 14 months on May 31st. He is just now getting to where he can fit in some 12 month clothes. Most of them still fall off him though. He's a tiny little thing. Still under 20 pounds.

Anyways, I just posted on my blog today about Landon's eating habits. For such a long time he wouldn't/couldn't eat any type of table food. So, he is just now learning to eat what we eat. He still won't eat a lot so I can't really be of much help to you in that department. I wish I could be though.

Also, Sammy's favorite things...those are pretty much Landon's favorite things too, lol. Especially the head butting(which we are trying teach him not to do), bath time and waving. His list of least favorite things would look exactly like Sammy's. He hates for things to be taken away from him and hates being told no.

At around 11 months Liam wouldn't sit still long enough to drink his bottle, either, so we started giving some of it via straw cup and that seemed to work ok. Else we would just put him in the play pen with a pillow and his bottle and ignore him, which usually worked to make him just drink it so that he could get out and play.
