It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

This weekend brought a most unusual sight to those of us living in El Paso--a snow-dusted mountain top.  Granted, it was still in the upper 40s for most of the weekend, but that light dusting was just the thing to put me in the mood for doing some Christmas decorating around the house.

Our new artificial tree is now set up in the living room, although I'm waiting for its novelty to wear off a bit before I start putting any actual ornaments on it.  Ahem.  I'm looking at you, Sammy.

The kitchen was sadly lacking any sort of festive decoration, so I went wild and crazy and made a paper garland to hang in the window while Sammy was napping.  (It looks all fancy and whatnot, but I totally cheated and used this to make it--I had a coupon, so I figured what the heck.)

And it wouldn't be Christmas without my vintage aluminum tree put up and decked out in all of my fun, vintage ornaments.  (Here's hoping the cat doesn't break any this year.)

There are a couple of "new" additions to the decorations this year, like the wooden Santa Claus, sleigh and Rudolph that my late aunt made years and years ago.  The crocheted snowman is a relic from one of my early Christmases as a little kid.

Have you seen the new tumblr meme, cats hate reading?  Apparently Sandy Cat feels the same way about crafting.

I think my new yarn wreath turned out pretty well, even after having been sat on. (I made the felt poinsettias following this tutorial.)  I'd say we're about 60% of the way to being done with our decorating; how about you?  Is your house ready for the holidays?

It all looks lovely! And yes, we are all decked out. It's hard to believe that all you guys get is a snow dusting on the mountain, when we have had snow for several days straight!
