Texture Thursday: Sweet

I attended my very first FRG meeting last night (Family Readiness Group for those of you military-acronym-challenged, like myself), which was going to be a family-style potluck affair.  Being that this was going to be the first time that many of the soldiers and spouses of Captain Husband's battery were meeting me, I definitely didn't want to show up empty-handed.

CH insisted that I didn't have to make anything, but I didn't need much excuse to make my current go-to favorite dessert--strawberry cream cake (you may recall that I made this a few weeks back, but here's a link to the recipe again because seriously, it's awesome.  You should make one immediately if not sooner; you'll thank me.)

The cake turned out fabulously and apparently CH's battery thought it was pretty tasty, too--only one piece was left by the time the meeting came to a close.  Yeah, I totally called dibs on that last piece--it was in my belly about two hours after we got home last night.  Do you have a go-to dessert?

My go-to dessert in the summer is peach upside-down cake. I slice a ripe peach and place the slices in a spiral on some parchement paper on the bottom of a round cake pan. Then I pour yellow cake mix made according to the directions on top. When it's out of the oven and cool, then flipsies! It looks gorgeous and tastes delish! Especially with homemade whipped cream!

That looks delicious. I don't really have a go to dessert. It really depends on the occasion. I have about 4 that I keep as faves. So I will usually from those.

Those strawberries look so tasty! Fresh fruit is our go to; I can't wait for the farmers' market to start up!

If peanut allergies aren't an issue, I like to make Reese's Pieces parfaits. Make one batch of Jello chocolate instant pudding (I prefer sugar & fat free), then set aside in fridge. Make one batch of Jello vanilla instant pudding, but mix in about 1/2 cup peanut butter (it will taste exactly like Reese's Pieces). Layer the two puddings in bowls, or parfait dishes. Top with whipped cream and sprinkle Reese's Pieces on top. These are a big hit with kiddos.

For adults, I'm a cookie person. Depending on the season, I'll bake standard Toll House chocolate chip, or chocolate-dipped coconut sugar cookies, or snickerdoodles.

Hubby prefers brownies, so I always keep a box handy to whip them up quickly.

The strawberry cake looks AMAZING. I'd been drooling over it for awhile, but I think you talked me into making it!

I love Funfetti cakes, but frozen yogurt with cookie dough is the favorite right now. I love it!
