Out of this world (and out of whack)

I hope you all got a chance to check out the biggest full moon of the year on Saturday night--it was a pretty spectacular sight here in El Paso, although my photo doesn't really do it justice as I'm awful at night photography and couldn't be bothered to take the time to set up the tripod to do things properly.

My brother, sister-in-law, and nephew are arriving in here this morning; it's the first time we've seen them since Thanksgiving last year, so you can imagine just how excited I am about their visit.  As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing worse than traveling half-way across the country only to spend your first day there tracking down the brand of diapers that you like, or scavenging for age-appropriate snacks for your nearly eight-month-old, so to that end I spent most of the weekend running to various stores and getting things set up for them.  Well, between that and attempting to clean up the house a bit (we're going to have a crawler in the house, eek!), I managed to mess up my lower back something awful.  Throw in a thirty-pound toddler that still needs to be picked up and put in his car seat several times a day and now I'm hobbling around like a pregnant octogenarian.  If anyone has some tried and true remedies for alleviating some of the discomfort, I'm all ears!

 then, she {snapped}

I think heat is your friend. Otherwise, just rest! (ha! I kid! Who can rest when you have a toddler!) Aleve really does it for me. Is that safe when you're prego? I don't know.

What a good host you are:) I'm sure they'll have a great time:)

As for the back, grab a couple of those stick on heat patches, it's what gets me thru the day:) For some reason my 30lb toddler has suddenly decided he needs to be held all the freakin time. Perhaps he enjoys the "seat" his little sister has created on mommy...regardless, with her weight and his my back is crying for relief.

The only way I could relieve any pain during pregnancy was being in the water. Of course, you can't swim all day, but it definitely helped for a few hours!

Have a good visit!!

Okay, I know I'm kind of a weird yoga kind of gal, but I'm telling you , this works! Get down on hands and knees and arch your back, then release, arch, then release. Do this every day or so. I do this exercise even now because when you get into your 40s, for some reason, your back just aches all the time. Also, make sure you are bending at the knees when you pick up Sammy. Very important!

I second the gentle yoga moves, but I would also recommend a massage. And I know a lot of people recommended heat right away, but you don't want to do heat for a couple days after the injury, unless this is a chronic condition. Ice first (even though it sucks).

I was so excited...but it ended up cloudy in GA. :( Great shot!

Have a wonderful time with your company...and rest that back!

I couldn't have survived my pregnancy with out chiropractic care. Barring that, have CH massage your back with a tennis ball, and get on your hands and knees to do some sustained cow/cat moves (back arches). You'll feel silly, but it feels nice to let your belly hang down when you do the cow moves.

I thought I had posted a comment but I don't see it... did you delete me? I'm hoping not, it was a benign comment. Gist: teach Sammy to crawl into his car seat and go see a nice chiropractor. And the cat cow thing, that's great too. Hope you are feeling better today!
