A snow day in El Paso

We woke up to snow-covered mountains yesterday morning.   I don't know if the novelty of seeing snow in the desert will ever really wear off on me--for some reason, whenever snow falls in El Paso I get all excited just like a little kid.

Sammy and I had a play date on the east side, which meant we were going to be traveling through the Franklin Mountains via Transmountain Road.  I knew from previous drives that there was going to be some pretty gorgeous snowscapes along the way,  so I made sure to bring my camera along.

There's just something about the juxtaposition of snow and cacti that I love; maybe it's because 95% of the time the mountains are brown so to see them covered in white is a nice change from the monochromatic norm.

Snow is a very ephemeral thing here in the desert, so most of it had already melted by the time Sammy and I made our way home a few hours later.  Thank goodness I stopped to take these photos first thing in the morning--of course, it would have been even better if I had convinced Sammy to leave the warmth of the car for a few photos, but he was.  Not.  Having.  It.  Oh well, maybe next time!

It never gets old here! When we moved to El Paso this past summer I was told over and over that there was no snow. Ever. Guess this winter proved that wrong.

You're getting snow - that's crazy?! Although it looked like it might do some of that here last night.

Lucky you! It feels like Spring here. I just saw woodpeckers in my backyard and want to take pictures.

We're experiencing a heat wave here with temps in the 90s.

Beautiful captures as always, L!

I'm completely jealous of the snow. It's been a year since I have seen any. Beautiful Beautiful!
