Intuition is a crazy thing

Captain Husband was on staff duty on Wednesday, which basically translates to working for twenty-four hours straight; he came home yesterday morning around 9:30, visited with me and Sammy very briefly and then went right to bed.  CH woke up around 3 pm, which was when Sammy was getting up from his afternoon nap, so CH volunteered to take Sammy with him on some errands while I took the opportunity to grab a quick cat nap of my own.  Normally CH takes my car whenever he's going out with Sammy, as it's a lot easier maneuvering Sammy into his car seat, but, as he later told me, for some reason he thought to himself, "You know, I just feel safer driving the truck when I have Sammy," and so he loaded Sammy into the truck and off they went.

I woke up around 4:30 with the feeling that something was wrong and then the reason why struck me-- the house was completely quiet meaning that I was the only one home.  I knew that the errands should have taken at most a half an hour to complete and CH is not the type of individual to spontaneously decide to take Sammy to the park for an hour or two.  In my somewhat sleep-addled state I envisioned the worst--a car accident.  I went downstairs and saw that my car was still in the driveway, which confused me a bit, and then I noticed that the diaper bag was still by the door--CH hadn't taken it with him, which only strengthened my feeling of dread.  I then checked my phone, which had three missed phone calls from CH in the last half hour, but no messages.  I tried calling him back and the phone picked up but no one was there.  I hung up and tried again and this time it went straight to voice mail.  I sat on the couch unsure of what to do next as the sinking feeling in my stomach increased.

At five after five, the front door opened to reveal a rather disheveled looking Captain Husband holding Sammy, but no sign of the truck.  Turns out CH had been in an accident about a mile from our house and had to walk home because his truck couldn't be driven.  After assuring me that he and Sammy were both okay, CH grabbed my car keys so he could follow the tow truck to the local Ford dealership and initiate the claims process.  We're going to be a one-vehicle family for the next few weeks as a result, but the inconvenience is easy to handle because CH and Sammy are safe and sound.

Oh wow! What a scary feeling! I hate when things like that happen... I'm so glad both CH & Sammy are ok, that's most important of course :)

How scary! I'm glad everyone is ok, even if Sammy was soggy and your husband tired from lugging a toddler home.

I am glad everyone is safe! What is it with Libert's and their cars these past weeks? When my Gram was her car accident I had the same thing happen to me; I looked at the clock and new something was wrong at the time they say she was in the accident. Sending you hugs all around!!!!
