Weekend ups and downs

Bill Murray in Groundhog Day

My brother was supposed to come down and visit with Sammy and me this weekend, but due to some personal issues that arose at the last minute, he was unable to make the trip. I was looking forward to hanging out with him and having a little bit of me time take care of Very Important Things, such as getting my eyebrows tamed and treating my peds to some TLC (neither of which have been done since before I gave birth nearly four months ago, yikes), while my brother watched Sammy. So when he texted to tell me that he wasn't going to be able to make it down, I almost cried. I had really, really, really been looking to getting a little bit of a respite from caring for Sammy 24/7; in fact, until that point, I hadn't realized just how much I had been counting on getting a small break. Don't get me wrong--I love my kid and all, but it's hard work caring for him day in and day out and after awhile I start to feel as though I'm starring in my own personal version of Groundhog Day.

My weekend wasn't all bad, though. Saturday was the NoVa Mommies Birthday Bash; I had volunteered to help decorate for the party so Sammy and I headed over there early in the morning with all of my Halloween stuff in tow. Everything went off without a hitch and I think everyone had a good time--I know we did. Here are a few photos of the fun:
The fabulous cake was made and donated to the party by Joy's Bake Shop.

I loved her costume.

That cake is awesome and Sammy is so cute!

Hope you can get some relief sometime soon. Sometimes just a few hours can be a wonderful break.

Ditto on the cake! Wow, that's amazing - hope it tasted as good as it looks.

Of course you need "me" time and don't you feel guilty about that! Giving 24/7 can take a toll, and we are much better mommies when we get a break. Hope that comes soon!

The cake was very yummy indeed! And one of my friends has volunteered to watch Sammy for me this Wednesday so I can get a little time to myself. I am soooo looking forward to getting a little pampering. :)

Hope you get a much deserved break soon! Caring for a baby full time can be very exhausting.

Anyway, the cake looks wonderful and Sammy is just darling! :)
