A zooriffic birthday

The birthday girl and her family

Sammy's friend Lillian turned one yesterday, so we joined her and her parents, her grandmother and her uncles for a fun day at the National Zoo.  We did our best to beat the heat, but by the end of our visit, the heat had thoroughly beaten us.  (Note to self: Do not go to the zoo on day that the heat index is in the low 100s.  It's just not fun.)  I did manage to take a few photos of the handful of animals on exhibit that weren't hiding out in a cool, dark place (they definitely had the right idea).

Lion

Tim's "Oh my god, it's so hot out here" face
Tim's "Holy crap, it's hot out herrrre" face

Asian elephant

Lone prairie dog

I can't believe Lillian is a year old--it seems like only yesterday that I was driving up to Frederick to meet her for the very first time.  Just look at the two of them playing in the grass; they're definitely not babies anymore.  Oh, how the time flies!

Great zoo captures but sorry to hear that the heat was really the main event. It's hard to really enjoy a place like the zoo on days like that. 75 degrees is good if you ask me :)
